Pastor's Acknowledgements:
I, Rev. Dr. James A. Brettell, wish to acknowledge the following
persons who have had significant impact in my spiritual life: Captain John T.
Goad, Chaplain, USN (Ret.), under whose ministry I was saved on the Island of
Trinidad, West Indies, in 1962; Rev. John R. Hagan, my Pastor in Akron, Ohio,
who loved me, trained me, and guided me in my early Christian life from
1963-1969; Gin North, a dear friend who, in 1969, in Forth Worth, Texas, gave me
my first set of L.S. Chafer's 8 volume Systematic Theology; Miles J. Stanford,
who laid the foundation in my life that has taught me to walk moment-by-moment
by means of the Holy Spirit; Dr. W.O. Vaught, the Pastor of Immanuel Baptist
Church, Little Rock, Arkansas, who challenged me in 1973 to study doctrine under
the ministry of Bob Thieme, Jr., Pastor-Teacher, Berachah Church, Houston,
Texas; Bob Thieme, Jr., who taught me many valuable doctrines, and who instilled
in me the importance of studying and teaching, studying and teaching. L. S.
Chafer has made the biggest impact on my systematic theology. John Walvoord and
Dwight Pentecost have assisted in shaping my eschatological viewpoint of human
history. While every one of these persons have had significant impact upon my
spiritual life, I reject the notion that I am a slave to anyone but Jesus
Christ. In the formative years of my Christian life, I learned many valuable
things from the above mentioned persons, but in these latter years of my
ministry, I am standing on my own two feet while relying solely on God the Holy
Spirit to teach and guide me. I wish to thank God for all of the above named
persons for their contributions to my spiritual life.
